Benefits and Rewards

As a YHA employee, you'll have access to a range of benefits that are designed to make your time with us as happy and rewarding as possible. Here are just some of the benefits you can enjoy when you work for YHA.

Plenty of time for holiday:
You’re entitled to 28 days annual leave per year (pro-rata if you do not work full-time), rising to 29 after a year.

Health cash plans:
With YHA, you have access to a health cash plan to help you manage the costs of everyday health expenses such as eye tests, dental treatment and physio.

Life insurance:
If the worst should happen while you’re employed by YHA, your family will receive a lump sum equivalent to twice your annual earnings.

Free YHA membership:
All staff are automatically enrolled to our YHA membership programme which gives you discounts for international hostel bookings.

Give as you earn:
We offer a simple way for you to donate to any UK charities close to your heart (including YHA) through your wages.

Cycle to work:
We are able to offer a cycle to work scheme that allows you to save on the cost of a new bike and cycling equipment (subject to eligibility).

Flexible approaches to working:
Having time to connect with the important people in your life is vital. That’s why we’ll do our best to support you in balancing your work and family life, such as flexible working options. Speak to your line manager for guidance.

Stay for free:
We have over 150 hostels in some of the most stunning places in England and Wales. If you work for YHA, you get 10 free overnight stays every year for you and up to three guests. You’ll also get a discount on YHA Exclusive Hire.

Make your pay go further:
YHA has a partnership with the #RewardMe discount portal. This allows you to get cash back and discounts on thousands of products with some of the biggest brands, products, holidays and other deals with 3,000+ retailers.

Learning, development and career progression:
YHA offers supportive learning and development opportunities to all staff with career opportunities available. An extensive range of apprenticeship training is on offer, along with short courses, internal training and – where budgets allow – external training to provide continuous learning and upskilling. We recognise the benefits of promoting from within and ensuring our staff have the knowledge to do so.

Support at work:
You’ll have regular team meetings, one-to-ones, opportunities for feedback and chances to socialise. You’ll have access to our independent, confidential helpline for advice and counselling that’s available 24-hours a day and is totally free. And, if you ever need to take time off work for sickness, bereavement, or other needs, your line manager will always seek to support you. Our online wellbeing centre has lots of advice on health and financial matters.

Money off your meals:
Hostel-based staff can tuck into reduced price meals on the days they’re working (available to live-in staff on non-working days too). No one wants to work on an empty belly!
